NM State Archaeology Fair
(City Hall Park): All day Grants: 505-287-4802

Each year as part of New Mexico Heritage Preservation Week, the State Historic Preservation Division and the New Mexico Archeological Council Sponsor the New Mexico Archaeology Fair.  Heritage Preservation Week is an annual event celebrating the prehistoric and historic heritage of New Mexico; the Archaeology Fair is one of our most important events relating to the prehistory of our state.  All of the participants in the Fair are volunteers who are donating their time and expertise to share their love of the past with others.

As the exhibits in this year's Archaeology Fair explore, archaeology is the study of the material remains of past societies.  The purpose of this study is to help understand how groups of people lived in the past and how they interacted with the environment and with each other.  Ultimately, archaeology helps us understand the ways in which our world today has been influenced by our ancestors and helps us to appreciate all human societies better, including our own.
